Today’s lucky number is two.
Not only am I posting two days in a row, but it’s also a two-fer Tuesday special!
I know, it’s almost too much.
If you’ve ever scrolled through my Recipe page, then it comes as no surprise that I love smoothies. I have more smoothies and milkshake recipes than any other category. It’s just way too much fun to come up with yummy and sweet combinations (with no added sugar), each sip brimming with its own unique health and beauty benefits.
Summ-ah Time
Today’s blend is the perfect summer fusion of flavors and textures. This Carob Melon Smoothie has the most delicious creamy, icy, milky texture, thanks to a generous amount of frozen cantaloupe. If you’ve never tried cantaloupe in a smoothie, I strongly encourage it! This juicy fruit is rich in vitamins A and C, great for supporting healthy skin. It’s high water and potassium (an electrolyte) content make cantaloupe excellent for re-hydrating your body on a hot day or after a workout.
Carob Love
I threw this smoothie together last summer, after purchasing a package of raw carob powder for the first time. After making Angela’s carob-almond fudge and creating my carob candy apples, I looked around my kitchen brainstorming other possible flavor pairings. Although it sounds odd, the ripe and ready to be sliced cantaloupe on my counter was screaming to be blended with some sweet carob in a smoothie. I just had to give it a try, and you know what? It was love at first whirl.
Carob powder is naturally sweet, unlike cocoa powder. At the same time is also very low in natural sugars. If you can disassociate carob from cocoa powder, you will find it has its own unique flavor that is rich, deep, and smooth with a hint of caramel or date-like flavor. It is caffeine free, rich in nutrients like calcium (3 times more than cocoa) and B vitamins, protein, and fiber. It’s also lower in calories and fat than cocoa. (Need another reason to fall for carob? My insanely creamy dreamy and easy Carob Banana Chia Pudding is so good you’ll never guess it has NO added sugar/sweeteners).
Bonus Recipe!
This Carob Melon smoothie has evolved into one of my all-time favorites. I was churning up a glass the other day when I noticed that the beautiful tan color reminded me of a latte. Hmm… a frozen, blended, latte. MMMMM. Since caffeine isn’t my bff, (it gives me jitters, tummy aches, racing heart, and overall yucks) I set about transforming this smoothie into the tastiest iced coffee drink sans sugar, caffeine, and dairy, with one of my favorite coffee stand-ins. To find out how I did it, check out my Facebook page (I also included a few bullets regarding coffee/caffeine and how it might be making your acne and wrinkles worse – that’s right, a bonus within a bonus. Can you even stand it??)

It’s sooo good.
Grab your blender, some melon and some carob, and mix up this crazy-good smoothie. Time to sit back and unwind. It’s summah, summah, summah – time!

Looks delicious! Cantaloupe is one of my favorite fruits, but I’ve never thought to add it to a smoothie before. Great idea! I’ll have to give this a try 🙂
